My husband and I booked Coo for professional photos during our trip to Japan, and we couldn’t be happier with the experience! The photos turned out beautifully, and Coo was wonderful to work with—professional, friendly, responsive, and incredibly accommodating. He offered excellent recommendations on the best photography times and locations, kimono rentals, and other places to explore during our trip. He also delivered our photos sooner than expected, which was a lovely surprise. We would absolutely love to work with him again and highly recommend Coo to anyone looking for a photographer in Japan!!!

We had a wonderful session with Coo. The premium service started at booking, when they sent me a ton of recommendations for hotels, restaurants, and tourist attractions. They were also very helpful recommending places for a kimono rental. The session itself was done in Gion and Coo managed to capture shots of our large group (4 adults + 2 kids) with minimal people in the background. He knew how to angle the shots to make it look like we were in the touristy areas alone. The turn around time for the photos was almost immediate. We had them less than 24hours after our session. They are memories that we will cherish. Thank you so much for a fun photoshoot!

Coo photographed our family kimono photoshoot with my daughter and was incredible from start to finish. He connected with my child right away, keeping her engaged and relaxed, and planned a perfect, relaxing route with beautiful backdrops but minimal crowd. The images are heartfelt and true to the day—especially the shots that capture my daughter’s emotions. Our gallery arrived within a few days, beautifully edited and easy to share. We would 100% hire Coo again and recommend him to everyone looking for a professional photographer.

Coo is a great photographer. He is very attentive to details and lighting and knows where to get the right shots even when there are tons of other tourists/people around. He was great working with my two young boys who were not really into taking photos. I would recommend his services!! His English is really great and he was super easy to communicate with. We messaged via WhatsApp the night before so it was very clear where to meet and what time he would show up. He showed up early to the appointment too! I wanted our family to rent kimonos and it was so hard to know which place was reliable from just searching on the internet. Coo had a lot of recommendations for where we could rent kimonos and it really gave me peace of mind knowing it’s a place someone had worked with before. The kimono rental he recommended was awesome. They helped us coordinate kimono colors for the whole family. We had a wonderful experience with Coo and would work with him again when we return to Japan again!!

I booked a family photoshoot with Coo to capture the beauty of Autumn in Kyoto. Coo understands the brief very well and was able to suggest a variety of places around the Arashiyama area for us to do our 90 minutes shoot. He also gave me suggestions on Kimono shops for us to rent our traditional costumes from. A few days before my shoot, he was very responsible to check on the weather forecast and he informed me that it would unfortunately rain on the initial date and time that we have arranged. So he went out of the way to make alternative date and time that could fit both our schedules. This was an exceptional service which he did not have to do but did so to make sure that the shoot would be successful. On the day of the shoot, he arrived early. He has a very patient and warm personality. He took the effort to chat with my 4 year old boy so that my kid would warm up to him and feel comfortable at the shoot. I was initially feeling worried on how my kid would be but I was definitely happy and assured to see how he put my kid at ease. My son was not only enjoying the photoshoot but was also chatting happily with him. He brought us to places around the Arashiyama area and was able to capture a good variety of scenes with different styles. When I received the images within the 4-5 working days later, I was so impressed with his work. He is definitely an extremely skillful and experienced photographer who could capture good moments of my family’s interaction and I love his edits! Thank you so much Coo for doing this for our family. We now have beautiful photos of our family in Kyoto’s Autumn as memories for a life time 🙂

Is kimono photography suitable for children?

Which season is best for kimono photos?

Kimono photography works beautifully throughout the year, with cherry blossom season and autumn foliage season being especially popular. Some of our clients even wear their regular shoes and simply keep them out of the frame by taking upper-body photos only !

Absolutely ! Many solo travelers choose a kimono session as a unique way to remember their trip to Japan !

Yes ! This is one of our most popular options ! We can suggest some Kimono shops for you !

Yes ! We often photograph guests in beautiful locations away from the busiest tourist areas !

How far in advance should I book?

Cherry blossom season and autumn foliage season often book out several months in advance. Early booking is recommended since we often photograph 5 or more sessions a day especially in busy seasons !
